Protection & Coverage is required for every Riddup reservation unless the applicable Reservation Details expressly state otherwise.
Protection & Coverage helps support eligible reservations by providing access to applicable insurance coverage, claims coordination, and reservation support throughout the rental experience.
Protection & Coverage requirements, pricing, deductibles, eligibility requirements, Security Deposit requirements, and available services may vary depending on the Vehicle, Vehicle Provider (“Host”), applicable insurance program, and Reservation Details.
The Protection & Coverage applicable to a reservation will be disclosed before payment is collected.
Protection Overview
Protection & Coverage may include:
- Third-party liability protection;
- Physical-damage protection for eligible Vehicles;
- Claims coordination following an Accident or other covered incident; and
- Reservation support throughout the claims process.
Coverage is always subject to:
- the applicable insurance policy;
- the Riddup Rental Agreement;
- Reservation Details;
- eligibility requirements;
- applicable deductibles;
- exclusions;
- limitations;
- reporting requirements; and
- prohibited-use provisions.
Protection & Coverage does not guarantee payment for every Accident, Damage claim, theft, loss, or other incident.
Insurance coverage decisions are made solely by the applicable insurance provider under the governing insurance policy.
Protection Cost
Current Pilot Rate: $25.00 per rental day
Protection & Coverage is charged separately from the Vehicle Rental price.
The Protection & Coverage charge applicable to a reservation will always be disclosed before payment.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, this charge does not include:
- Vehicle Rental;
- Security Deposit;
- Applicable deductible;
- Fuel or charging shortages;
- Tolls;
- Traffic or parking citations;
- Cleaning charges;
- Roadside-service charges;
- Administrative Fees;
- Late-return charges; or
- Other separately disclosed charges.
Protection & Coverage pricing may change for future reservations.
Third-Party Liability Protection
Subject to the applicable insurance policy, Protection & Coverage may provide up to:
$300,000 Combined Single Limit (CSL)
for covered third-party bodily injury and property-damage claims involving eligible Authorized Drivers.
The stated limit represents the maximum coverage potentially available under the applicable insurance policy and does not guarantee payment of any particular claim or amount.
Actual coverage depends on the facts of the claim and the terms of the applicable insurance policy.
Riddup does not determine legal fault or insurance liability.
Physical-Damage Protection
Eligible Vehicles with an approved value of up to $75,000 may qualify for physical-damage protection, subject to the applicable insurance policy and Reservation Details.
Physical-damage protection may be subject to a deductible.
The applicable deductible and the Guest’s potential financial responsibility will be disclosed before payment whenever applicable.
Physical-damage protection does not necessarily cover every type of Damage or loss.
Coverage may be limited or unavailable in situations including:
- unauthorized or ineligible drivers;
- prohibited Vehicle use;
- intentional Damage;
- fraudulent conduct;
- failure to timely report an incident;
- failure to cooperate with a claim investigation;
- mechanical breakdown unrelated to a covered event; or
- any other exclusion contained in the applicable insurance policy.
The insurance policy always controls.
Guest Responsibility
Protection & Coverage helps reduce financial risk but does not necessarily eliminate the Guest’s financial responsibility.
If an insurer applies a deductible to a covered claim, the Guest may be responsible for the applicable deductible as permitted by the Reservation Details, Rental Agreement, applicable insurance policy, and law.
Depending on the circumstances, the Guest may also remain responsible for losses or charges involving:
- excluded Damage;
- amounts exceeding applicable insurance limits;
- unauthorized or prohibited Vehicle use;
- Mechanical Damage caused by improper operation;
- lost keys or key replacement;
- missing accessories;
- towing or recovery expenses;
- impound or storage charges;
- reasonable Loss of Use;
- unpaid balances;
- tolls, citations, or other rental-related charges; or
- other amounts permitted under the Rental Agreement and applicable law.
The denial or absence of insurance coverage does not automatically eliminate the Guest’s contractual obligations under the Rental Agreement.
Roadside Assistance
Roadside assistance is not automatically included as insurance coverage unless the Reservation Details expressly state otherwise.
When reasonably available, Riddup or the Vehicle Provider may assist in coordinating third-party roadside services.
Roadside situations may include:
- mechanical breakdown;
- flat tire;
- lockout;
- dead battery;
- towing; or
- another roadside emergency.
Whenever reasonably possible, Guests should contact Riddup or the Vehicle Provider before arranging roadside services.
Service availability cannot be guaranteed.
Guests may remain responsible for roadside-related expenses when:
- the service is not covered by the applicable insurance policy;
- the incident results from the Guest’s conduct;
- the Guest arranges unauthorized services;
- the Reservation Details assign responsibility to the Guest; or
- responsibility otherwise applies under the Rental Agreement.
If an Accident or Incident Occurs
If an Accident, theft, vandalism, Vehicle Damage, or another incident occurs during the Rental Period, the Guest should:
- Move to a safe location when reasonably possible.
- Check whether anyone requires medical assistance.
- Contact emergency services when appropriate.
- Notify law enforcement when legally required.
- Obtain a police report or report number whenever available.
- Take clear photographs and videos of all Vehicles, Damage, license plates, and the surrounding area.
- Exchange contact, driver’s license, Vehicle, and insurance information with other involved parties.
- Obtain witness information when reasonably possible.
- Notify Riddup as soon as reasonably practicable.
- Follow reasonable claim and Vehicle-recovery instructions.
- Avoid admitting fault, promising payment, or negotiating settlements on behalf of Riddup, the Vehicle Provider, or any insurer.
Prompt reporting helps protect everyone involved and allows claims to be handled more efficiently.
Claims Documentation
Guests may be required to provide documentation including:
- driver’s license information;
- reservation information;
- date, time, and location of the incident;
- description of the Accident or loss;
- police report, when available;
- photographs and videos;
- witness information;
- information regarding other involved Vehicles or persons;
- insurance information for other involved parties;
- completed Accident or claim forms;
- towing or repair documentation; and
- any additional information reasonably requested by Riddup, the Vehicle Provider, or the applicable insurer.
Guests are expected to provide truthful information and cooperate in good faith throughout the claims process.
Failure to promptly report an incident, preserve evidence, or provide reasonably requested documentation may delay claim handling or affect applicable insurance benefits as permitted by the applicable insurance policy, Rental Agreement, and law.
Initiating a payment dispute or chargeback does not suspend a Guest’s obligation to cooperate with a claim investigation.
Vehicle Condition
Guests are responsible for promptly reporting:
- Vehicle Damage;
- warning lights;
- mechanical concerns;
- flat tires;
- theft;
- vandalism; or
- any other material condition arising during the Rental Period.
Riddup and the Vehicle Provider may use objective evidence—including timestamped photographs, videos, inspection reports, mileage records, telematics (where disclosed), fuel or battery readings, repair estimates, invoices, and police reports—to evaluate the Vehicle’s condition before, during, and after the reservation.
Failure to report Damage or another material incident may affect claim processing or result in additional responsibility as permitted under the Rental Agreement, applicable insurance policy, and law.
Security Deposits
Certain reservations require a refundable Security Deposit or temporary authorization hold before Vehicle pickup.
The applicable amount and payment method will always be disclosed before payment.
A Security Deposit:
- is separate from Protection & Coverage;
- is not an insurance premium;
- does not guarantee insurance coverage;
- does not represent the maximum amount the Guest may owe; and
- may be retained or applied only as permitted by the Rental Agreement, Reservation Details, Fee Disclosure, and applicable law.
If a reported Damage claim, toll, citation, unpaid balance, or another rental-related matter is under review, Riddup may temporarily delay releasing the Security Deposit while the matter is reasonably investigated.
After Riddup releases an authorization hold, the Guest’s bank or card issuer may require additional processing time before the funds become available.
Identity & Driver Verification
Riddup may require identity verification, driver’s-license verification, payment-method verification, or other eligibility reviews before approving a reservation.
Additional verification requirements may apply depending on:
- the Vehicle;
- the Vehicle Provider;
- the proposed Authorized Drivers;
- the applicable insurance program;
- the payment method; or
- the circumstances of the reservation.
Completion of verification does not guarantee reservation approval or insurance coverage.
Only drivers approved by Riddup before operating the Vehicle are considered Authorized Drivers.
Emergency Assistance
If there is immediate danger or injury, contact emergency services first.
For Vehicle-related assistance, contact Riddup or the Vehicle Provider using the information provided with your Reservation Details.
Guests should not authorize repairs, towing, modifications, or replacement parts without prior approval unless immediate action is reasonably necessary to protect personal safety or prevent additional Damage.
Coverage Limitations
Protection & Coverage is subject to all terms and conditions of the applicable insurance policy, including eligibility requirements, deductibles, coverage periods, limits, exclusions, reporting obligations, cooperation requirements, and prohibited-use provisions.
This page is provided for general informational purposes only and does not modify, expand, replace, or supersede the applicable insurance policy.
If there is any conflict between this page and the applicable insurance policy regarding insurance coverage, the insurance policy controls.
If there is any conflict regarding rental obligations, the Riddup Rental Agreement and applicable Reservation Details control, subject to applicable law.
Reservation Information
Before payment, the Reservation Details should identify, as applicable:
- Vehicle;
- Vehicle Provider;
- Guest;
- Authorized Drivers;
- Vehicle Rental price;
- Protection & Coverage price;
- pickup date, time, and location;
- return date, time, and location;
- Security Deposit;
- applicable deductible;
- applicable coverage;
- cancellation terms;
- fees; and
- Vehicle-specific requirements.
If reservation requirements materially change after a reservation request is submitted, the Guest must accept those changes before payment or reservation confirmation.
Protection & Coverage is designed to support a safer and more predictable rental experience for both Guests and Vehicle Providers. Riddup coordinates reservations and claims throughout the rental process, while insurance coverage decisions remain subject to the applicable insurance policy and insurer.
