Purpose of This Authorization
Certain charges associated with a RIDDUP reservation cannot always be determined before a reservation has ended. For example, tolls, parking charges, damage assessments, insurance deductibles, cleaning costs, or other authorized post-rental obligations may not become known until after the Vehicle has been returned.
Because these charges may arise after checkout, RIDDUP requires the Guest's authorization to securely store the payment method used for the reservation and, where appropriate, process valid post-rental charges in accordance with this Authorization.
This Post-Rental Payment Authorization ("Authorization") explains how RIDDUP LLC ("RIDDUP") and its authorized payment processors may securely store and later use the payment method provided for the applicable reservation.
This Authorization forms part of the Guest's reservation and should be read together with the following documents, each of which is incorporated by reference:
- Rental Agreement;
- Terms of Service;
- Fee Disclosure;
- Protection & Coverage;
- Cancellation Policy; and
- the applicable Reservation Details.
This Authorization and all post-rental charges remain subject to applicable law.
Nothing in this Authorization independently creates a charge that is not otherwise authorized under the Rental Agreement, Reservation Details, applicable RIDDUP policies, or applicable law.
Guest Authorization
By selecting the applicable acceptance checkbox during checkout, the Guest expressly authorizes RIDDUP and its authorized payment processors to securely store the payment method used for the applicable reservation for the limited purposes described in this Authorization.
RIDDUP does not directly store complete payment card information. Payment credentials are securely stored and processed by Stripe or another authorized payment processor using industry-standard security measures.
The Guest acknowledges that the saved payment method may be used only for valid post-rental obligations arising from the applicable reservation and authorized under:
- the Rental Agreement;
- the Reservation Details;
- the Fee Disclosure;
- this Authorization; or
- applicable law.
This Authorization does not authorize RIDDUP to charge the payment method for unrelated reservations, purchases, subscriptions, memberships, or other services.
Charges Covered by This Authorization
Where permitted under the Rental Agreement and applicable law, RIDDUP may process valid post-rental charges arising directly from the applicable reservation.
Post-rental charges may include the following categories, where applicable:
Reservation Adjustments
- approved rental extensions;
- late return charges; and
- additional rental charges authorized after the reservation begins.
Government and Third-Party Charges
- electronic tolls;
- parking charges;
- traffic or vehicle-related citations;
- governmental charges lawfully attributable to the reservation; and
- administrative processing fees disclosed in the Fee Disclosure, where applicable.
Fuel and Vehicle Operating Charges
- fuel shortages;
- electric battery charging shortages;
- refueling service charges; and
- battery charging service charges.
Cleaning and Restoration
- excessive cleaning beyond ordinary use;
- smoke or vaping remediation;
- pet-related cleaning;
- odor removal;
- biohazard remediation; and
- other extraordinary cleaning reasonably required to restore the Vehicle to its pre-rental condition, excluding ordinary wear and tear.
Vehicle Damage and Missing Property
- Vehicle Damage;
- Mechanical Damage for which the Guest is responsible under the Rental Agreement;
- lost or damaged keys;
- remotes;
- charging cables or charging equipment;
- vehicle documents;
- accessories supplied with the Vehicle; and
- other missing Vehicle equipment provided with the reservation.
Recovery and Assistance
- towing;
- roadside assistance;
- locksmith services;
- storage charges;
- impound expenses; and
- recovery expenses.
Insurance and Other Reservation Obligations
- applicable insurance deductibles;
- reasonable documented Loss of Use where permitted under the Rental Agreement;
- Administrative Fees disclosed in the Fee Disclosure; and
- other reservation-related charges specifically authorized or reasonably calculable under the Rental Agreement, Reservation Details, Fee Disclosure, Protection & Coverage, or another RIDDUP document expressly accepted by the Guest.
RIDDUP will not process charges prohibited by applicable law or charges that are not supported by a reasonable factual basis.
Security Deposits
A Security Deposit or authorization hold is separate from this Post-Rental Payment Authorization.
Where permitted under the Rental Agreement, RIDDUP may first apply an available Security Deposit toward valid post-rental obligations.
If:
- the Security Deposit is insufficient;
- the authorization hold has expired;
- the Security Deposit has already been released; or
- additional valid amounts remain outstanding,
RIDDUP may charge the saved payment method pursuant to this Authorization.
The release, expiration, or return of a Security Deposit does not necessarily indicate that RIDDUP has completed its post-rental review or that no additional valid post-rental obligations exist.
The amount of any Security Deposit does not represent the maximum amount a Guest may owe under the Rental Agreement.
Where applicable, any remaining Security Deposit balance will be returned in accordance with the Rental Agreement and RIDDUP's applicable policies after valid post-rental obligations have been satisfied.
When a Post-Rental Charge May Occur
Some post-rental obligations cannot reasonably be determined until after the Vehicle has been returned and the reservation has concluded.
Examples include:
- delayed electronic toll records;
- parking charges or traffic citations;
- Damage identified during the post-rental inspection;
- repair estimates or repair invoices;
- insurance deductibles;
- towing or roadside assistance invoices;
- storage or impound charges;
- fuel or battery charging shortages identified after return;
- excessive cleaning assessments;
- documented Loss of Use; or
- other reservation-related obligations that become known after the reservation has ended.
Certain third-party records, including toll invoices, governmental notices, insurance determinations, or repair documentation, may not become available until several days or weeks after the reservation concludes.
RIDDUP may process a valid post-rental charge only after the applicable amount has been reasonably determined in accordance with the Rental Agreement, Reservation Details, Fee Disclosure, Protection & Coverage, this Authorization, and applicable law.
How Post-Rental Charges May Be Determined
Where applicable, RIDDUP may evaluate post-rental obligations using reasonably available documentation and operational records, including:
- Vehicle inspection reports;
- timestamped photographs;
- timestamped videos;
- repair estimates;
- repair invoices;
- electronic toll records;
- governmental notices;
- fuel or battery charging assessments;
- mileage records;
- telematics data where disclosed to the Guest;
- Vehicle Provider documentation;
- police reports;
- witness statements;
- insurance determinations; and
- other operational records reasonably relating to the reservation.
RIDDUP may consider all reasonably available information when evaluating Vehicle condition, determining responsibility, and calculating valid post-rental obligations.
Nothing in this Authorization requires RIDDUP to rely exclusively on any single source of evidence.
Notice of a Post-Rental Charge
Except where immediate processing is reasonably necessary due to a governmental deadline, a third-party payment obligation, risk of material loss, or another circumstance permitted by applicable law, RIDDUP will ordinarily provide the Guest with notice before processing a post-rental charge.
Where reasonably practicable, the notice may include:
- the reason for the proposed charge;
- the amount;
- supporting documentation or a summary of the information then available; and
- instructions for contacting RIDDUP with questions or additional information.
Certain routine or objective charges, such as electronic tolls, approved rental extensions, or similar reservation-related charges, may be processed without advance notice where doing so is reasonable and permitted by applicable law.
If advance notice is not reasonably practicable, RIDDUP may provide notice promptly after the charge has been processed.
Nothing in this section limits RIDDUP's right to recover valid amounts owed under the Rental Agreement or applicable law.
Guest Opportunity to Provide Information
Guests may contact RIDDUP regarding a proposed or completed post-rental charge.
Guests are encouraged to provide any information reasonably relevant to the matter, including:
- photographs;
- videos;
- receipts;
- police reports;
- witness statements;
- insurance information;
- repair documentation; or
- other supporting records relating to the reservation.
RIDDUP will review information submitted in good faith and, where appropriate, may:
- approve the proposed charge;
- reduce the amount of the charge;
- reverse the charge;
- request additional information; or
- determine that no charge is appropriate.
RIDDUP is not required to accept unsupported, incomplete, inaccurate, or unverifiable information.
Providing additional information does not automatically suspend a valid payment obligation unless otherwise required by applicable law or expressly agreed by RIDDUP.
Where circumstances reasonably permit, RIDDUP will make commercially reasonable efforts to review information submitted by the Guest before making a final determination regarding disputed post-rental charges.
Nothing in this section prevents RIDDUP from processing charges that are objectively determinable, required to satisfy governmental or third-party deadlines, or otherwise permitted under the Rental Agreement or applicable law.
Payment Method Availability
The Guest agrees to maintain:
- a valid payment method;
- current billing information;
- a valid email address; and
- current contact information
until all financial obligations arising from the applicable reservation have been fully resolved.
Expiration, cancellation, replacement, or closure of a payment method does not eliminate valid financial obligations arising from the reservation.
If a saved payment method cannot be successfully charged, the Guest remains responsible for satisfying valid post-rental obligations.
Where permitted by applicable law, RIDDUP may request an updated payment method or another lawful form of payment.
Payment Processing and Partial Payments
If a valid post-rental charge cannot be fully collected using the saved payment method, RIDDUP may make reasonable additional attempts to collect the remaining balance in accordance with:
- applicable law;
- applicable payment network rules; and
- the requirements of RIDDUP's authorized payment processor.
Acceptance of a partial payment does not waive RIDDUP's right to recover any remaining amount lawfully owed.
Nothing in this Authorization guarantees that every payment attempt will be successful or that additional customer authentication will not be required by the applicable payment processor.
Chargebacks and Payment Disputes
Guests retain the right to dispute unauthorized, duplicate, inaccurate, fraudulent, or otherwise improper charges in accordance with applicable law and applicable payment card network rules.
Before initiating a chargeback or payment dispute, Guests are encouraged to contact RIDDUP so the matter may be reviewed and, where appropriate, resolved promptly.
Initiating a chargeback or payment dispute does not automatically suspend the Guest's obligation to:
- cooperate with RIDDUP's reasonable investigation;
- provide reasonably requested documentation;
- preserve relevant evidence;
- cooperate with the applicable Vehicle Provider;
- cooperate with the applicable insurance provider, where applicable; or
- comply with other obligations arising under the Rental Agreement.
Cancellation, expiration, replacement, or removal of a payment method, or initiation of a payment dispute, does not eliminate valid payment obligations arising from the reservation.
Where appropriate, RIDDUP reserves the right to pursue lawful collection of valid amounts owed in accordance with the Rental Agreement and applicable law.
When responding to a payment dispute, RIDDUP may provide reasonably relevant information to the applicable payment processor, financial institution, insurance provider, or other authorized party, including:
- Reservation Details;
- accepted agreements and authorizations;
- payment records;
- communications relating to the reservation;
- Vehicle inspection records;
- photographs or videos;
- repair estimates or invoices;
- claims documentation;
- electronic toll records; and
- other reasonably relevant operational records.
Nothing in this Authorization limits any rights the Guest may have under applicable law or applicable payment card network rules.
Electronic Records and Consent
The Guest acknowledges that this Authorization is executed electronically.
RIDDUP may retain electronic records relating to the Guest's acceptance of this Authorization, including:
- the version of this Authorization accepted;
- the date and time of acceptance;
- the Reservation ID;
- the Guest's account information;
- electronic acceptance records;
- payment processor transaction identifiers;
- the acceptance language displayed during checkout; and
- other electronic records reasonably necessary to document the Guest's authorization.
Electronic records maintained by RIDDUP or its authorized payment processor may be used to demonstrate the Guest's acceptance of this Authorization, subject to applicable law.
Duration of This Authorization
This Authorization remains effective until all financial obligations arising from the applicable reservation have been fully resolved, subject to any rights the Guest may have under applicable law.
To the extent permitted by applicable law and applicable payment network rules, a Guest may request that a saved payment method no longer be used for future post-rental charges.
Such a request does not eliminate valid financial obligations that arose before the request was made. If necessary, RIDDUP may request another lawful method of payment to satisfy those obligations.
Relationship to Other Agreements
This Authorization governs only the storage and use of the Guest's payment method for valid post-rental obligations arising from the applicable reservation.
This Authorization does not independently create any fee, charge, or financial obligation.
Any post-rental charge must arise under:
- the Rental Agreement;
- the applicable Reservation Details;
- the Fee Disclosure;
- Protection & Coverage, where applicable; or
- applicable law.
If there is any conflict among the applicable documents:
- applicable law controls;
- the applicable insurance policy controls insurance coverage determinations;
- the Reservation Details control transaction-specific information;
- the Rental Agreement controls the parties' rental rights and obligations;
- the Fee Disclosure controls disclosed fees, charges, and calculation methods; and
- this Authorization governs the storage and authorized use of the Guest's payment method for valid post-rental obligations.
